Despite the heaviness of her circumstances, Betsy presses on — and a chance encounter over lunch with Pastor John Crossley becomes a quiet but powerful turning point in her life.

Dwayne is a blue-collar construction worker whose life has unraveled into the weary shell of a “deadbeat dad.” Each night, instead of returning home to his family, he finds refuge in the numbing haze at Milly’s Tavern. Once a hopeful father, Dwayne is now a man consumed by his own drinking problem, leaving his wife Betsy struggling to keep their family together and his young son Timmy emotionally adrift.

Randy brings a rare depth and authenticity to the role—capturing both the grit of a man weighed down by life’s disappointments and the fragile humanity that still flickers beneath. His portrayal promises to shed light on the struggles of addiction, fractured families, and the glimmers of grace that can spark redemption.

The “Boss” makes his first appearance in Episode 2, anchoring the diner location as a sharp-tongued, profit-first proprietor who runs the establishment like a cash register—cold, rigid, and unsentimental. With a low tolerance for nonsense, he fires off curt orders and biting sarcasm at his staff, his contempt cutting deeper than any spatula ever could.

In particular, his dismissive treatment of Betsy leaves her emotionally exposed and overwhelmed, highlighting the diner as a place of tension in a community already fraying at the edges. As the neighborhood struggles, the diner itself becomes a symbol of what needs saving.

We welcome John Carter to the team and can’t wait to share his sarcastic presence in this role.


We are delighted to announce that Sophia McCaslin has joined the cast of Word and Deed! She will appear in Season 1, Episode 4 as Tish Moreland, the bright and curious 11-year-old niece of Pete Moreland.

When Tish comes to spend the weekend with her uncle, she tags along to church since she’s too young to stay home alone. Because her parents don’t attend church, the experience is brand new for her—sparking questions, wonder, and meaningful conversations that add heart and depth to the story.
